History of the Club
Wootton and Dry Sandford Football Club has been in existence for more than
60 years during which time it has always played in the North Berks Football
League. Over the years the Club has been successful with both its first and
reserve teams.
The first team won the War Memorial Cup in the 1970/71 season and again in the
2006/07 season and has been runner up on 4 other occasions the earliest being
in the 1948/49 season and the latest during the 2005/06 season. Additionally
the first team has been runner up in the North Berks Cup in the 1966/67 season
and the Charity Shield in the same season.
The Reserves have won the League Cup once and were runners up in 1994/95 and
2006/07. In 2006/07 the Reserves won the Nairne Paul Cup.
In the league the first team has played in the top 4 of the 5 leagues and has
won the 4th Division once, the third Division three times and the Second Division
once. The team has had a highest position to date of 8th in the top league, Division
1, in the 1983/84 season.
The Reserves have played in Divisions 3,4 and 5 and have won Division 5 twice.
The 2005/06 season saw the Reserves promoted to Division 4 after winning Division
5 and the first team promoted to Division 2 having won Division 3. In addition
the first team were runners up in the War Memorial Cup.
Last season, 2006/07, was the best for the Club so far with the first team winning
Division 2 and the War Memorial Cup. Additionally, the Reserves won the Paul
Nairne Cup and were runners up in the League Cup. The Reserves also finished
5th in division 4.
The current first team manager is Ricky Viner and the Reserves are managed by
Kevin Shorter and Gary Denny.
