CROWMARSH GIFFORD   4 - 4   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES

We welcomed a few players back after the defeat last week but also lost a couple more to injury. We started off brightly and were rewarded with a well worked goal when a cross by Josh Nicholls was put away by Richard Chilvers. We continued to press the game without any end result and then out of nowhere we failed to deal with a long ball which resulted in a deflected shot looping over Chris Dales. This caused a drop in confidence which was compounded when they scored their second goal.  We had to reshuffle after losing Adam Brooks to a hamstring injury and battled hard to get the equalizer we deserved.  The second half started even but before we knew it we were 4-2 down due to some slack defending.  After some inspired substitutes and some sustained pressure we scored with the goal scorer being Tom Srawley.  With 2 mins left to play we worked hard to get the ball back and we were rewarded with a equalizer right on the final whistle, we showed a great fighting spirit to come back which we hope to carry on to next week.

SAXTON ROVERS   5 - 0   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES

A bad day at the office is probably the best way to describe this game, we started the game missing at least 5 of the regulars, giving some of the other squad members a chance to shine against the league champions. After a even start with neither goalkeeper feeling troubled, around the 30th minute we fell behind to a headed goal.  After this confidence dropped and we became sloppy with wrong passes in wrong areas. We then gave a free kick away on the edge of the box which was dispatched into the top corner giving Johnny Fisher no chance.  After this we had a hopeful punt down the pitch which was chased by their centre forward and Dave Humphreys who was pulled back leaving the forward a clear shot on goal, going in at half time 3-0 down was a big blow.  Coming out for the second half we started brightly creating chances but again the final ball letting us down and before we knew it we were 5-0 down.

DRAYTON RESERVES   0 - 11   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES IN AG KINGHAM CUP

Where do I start with this one, from the first whistle the whole team played with real desire and determination.  It wasn't perfect but probably one of the best performances I have been involved in as manager of the reserves.  There were a few changes again, most noticeably Johnnie Fisher donning the gloves in the absence of Phil.  Chivs dropped back into midfield and he and James dictated the play from the start.  The goal scoring was started by Chris with only a few minutes played, and it was 5-0 by half time.
The second half started how the first had finished, we took control of the game and it wasn't long before the scoring started again, and the goal scoring was finished off with Studdsy in his first game of the season.  Great performance from the whole team.
Goalscorers, Yousif x2, James Booker x2, Chris Shahab x3, Chivs x2, Mark Uttley x1 and Studdsy x1.
Man of the Match: The whole team.

DRAYTON RESERVES   1 - 1   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES

There was only one change to the previous week with Jamie Madge coming in for the injured Mark Uttley, however we started like a team who had never played together.  Andy Chilvers did manage to get the ball in the net after only 10 minutes but this was disallowed for a very dubious off side.  Drayton made the most of our poor play and took the lead soon after.  They scored a second but this too was ruled out for an off side.  Woottons goal came with only 5 minutes of the first half left, Phil with a long kick from goal to Yousif who lobbed the Draton keeper.
The second half was a very different story, playing with the wind Wootton camped in the Drayton half.  Nick Ridge, who came on at half time had the first chance, put through one on one but scuffed the shot and injured himself in the process.  Alan Campbell came on and almost scored with his first touch.  This was the story of the half with chance after chance being wasted.
A draw was the final result but on the second half performance Wootton realy deserved the 3 points.

HARWELL INTERNATIONAL RESERVES   1 - 3   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES

Due to injuries and holidays it was a very different squad from the Shrivenham game.  A few players making their debut for the club and not disappointing, Sam Duthie started at left back and had a solid game as well as Andy Chilvers up front.  We started the game strongly again but didn't really get into our stride until we got our first goal.  Mark Uttley played in a corner which was headed down in the box with Chris Shahab the first to react and start the scoring.  It wasn't long before we doubled the lead when James Booker cut in from the left and chipped into the far corner giving the keeper no chance.  Andy Chilvers then scored the third, hitting a left foot volley across the keeper.
The second half was very scrappy and when Johnnie Fisher went off injured it took a while for the team to adjust.  Our best chance came when Yousif turned the ball back onto his left foot and had a shot from 20 yards which hit the crossbar, Andy headed the rebound but put it just over.  Harwell were able to pinch a consolation goal with only a few minutes remaining but the team dug in and made sure we didn't drop the points.
Man of the Match: James Booker

SHRIVENHAM 'A'   0 - 3   WOOTTON & DRY SANDFORD RESERVES

From the kick off the team played some great attacking football.  Following a number of opportunities Paul Dew opened the scoring with a neat move to flick the ball in at the front post from a corner.  Paul and Tom Larman continued to threaten the Shrivenham goal and Wootton doubled their lead when Tom was tripped by the keeper as he took the ball past him.  The ref had no option but to show a red card to the Shrivenham keeper and award Wootton a penalty.  Tom took the spot kick and slotted it in to the botton left corner giving the substitute keeper no chance.  Wootton had played some great attacking football up to this point but for the remainder of the first half started to relax and gave Shrivenham a few opportunities to undo all the hard work.
The second half started well again for Wootton with more tidy attacking football and Warren Ireson should have extended the lead when the ball dropped to him 10 yards out but he managed to put the ball over an empty goal.  The third goal finally came from some great play down the left between Yousif and Tom who fired the ball past the keeper.  At 3-0 Wootton made their first changes bringing on Nick Ridge and Steven Madge for Paul and Tom.  It wasn't long before Nick opened his account for the 09/10 season with fine finish after James Booker had put him in with a good through ball.  Again Wootton started to relax again and allowed Shrivenham some opportunities, the best of which was a penalty awarded for a clumsy tackle by Jamie Madge.  Phil Rose made a great save but the linesman ruled that he had come off his line and the kick had to be taken again.  This time it was put way over the goal and Wootton managed to retain the clean sheet.
A great perfromance by the boys and well deserved win.
Man of the Match: Paul Dew
