Wootton & Dry Sandford Reserves 7 - 4 Harwell
Village Reserves
It was an encouraging start to the season, with a good display of confident
football especially in the first half where Wootton dominated the game with
good passing, running off the ball and general confidence and encouragement
for each other. Wootton went in at half-time 4-1 up and there wasn't
a great deal to say apart from "same again".
The second half didn't go quite the same as we conceded 3 soft goals, although
we still scored 3 more ourselves.
We hope to carry on the form on Saturday away to Didcot Casuals Reserves
- seven more would be nice!

Nairne Paul Cup Final
Wootton Reserves V Lambourn Reserves
After losing the League Cup Final the previous week we set out making sure
we got something from the good season we were having, a goal in the 1st
minute was just the start we needed to settle any nerves that we had. A
long ball forward saw Danny Cox forced wide but from the tightest of angles
he slid the ball home. 10 minutes later we were back level when Lambourn
equalised from a corner, poor marking saw a header nestle in the far corner
of the net. But it wasn’t long before we went back in front, again
Danny was the scorer after good work on the left from Sam Nicholls his
cross finding Danny and with a great flick over the defender’s head
his shot found the net.
With both sides creating chances the 2nd half was just as good as the 1st,
when a cross from the left found Danny’s head and with the ball looping
over the ‘keeper it gave us and himself a 3rd goal. Then with Lambourn
having to push forward to try and get back into the game, great work again
on the left, this time from James Booker, saw his cross being turned in by
Josh Nicholls and that was to be the goal which ended any hopes Lambourn
had had.
After a good run down the right hand side by Steve Bramley and with a foul
being made against him, in the box, Martin Clarke knocked home the penalty
to make the final score 5-1, so the party could begin.

Wootton Reserves Vs Grove Rangers Reserves
Our 2nd game against Grove Res’ saw us gain revenge for the cup final
defeat just 3 days earlier.
Not much to report on the match which saw both teams make many changes from
previous game. Most of the chances going Grove’s way, but poor finishing
from both sides and good saves from Phil Padbury in our goal kept the score
sheets blank. Into the 2nd half and a draw looking to be the most likely
result a 25yd free kick from Martin Clarke, with only 15mins left, sailed
over everybody and landed nicely into the net seeing us to 3 priceless points.

League Cup Final Vs Grove Rangers Reserves
I’m sorry to say but for a game in which we should have been up for
we were not. In a game of few chances and where our ‘Keeper was the
busier I do think we played apart in a good final.
Early chances going Grove’s way we then created a few of our own with
shots from Ryan Dodds and Danny Cox and also a couple of long range efforts
form John Dunbar and James Booker, but the half finished 0-0 thanks to Phil
Padbury making three fine saves one of which was a fine header from six yards
out.
An early goal in the 2nd half (which on our behalf was sloppy) turned out
to be the winner. We pushed on for an equalizer, which meant us leaving ourselves
open at the back, but thankfully Grove failed to take further advantage of.
So in the end we lost the 1st of our two finals and I would have to say we
can and will improve for the next one.

Wootton Reserves Vs Steventon Reserves
With this weeks game at Steventon reserves kicking off at 4.00pm and weather conditions sunny and warm we got off to a good start with 2 goals in the first 20mins from Steve Bramley and Josh Nicholls. We let our guard down and relaxed too much (players must have been thinking of next weeks final) and conceded 2 sloppy goals to go in at half time 2-2.
After the break we found good form again and scored 2 goals in the first 10mins once again Bramley and Nicholls finding the net. With further chances going to waste , James Ivey found the net for his first goal of the season to make the final score 5-2.

Wootton Reserves Vs Long Wittenham Reserves
Reserves got back to winning ways this week, with a hard game against Long
Wittenham Res who at times played well. With 4 mins gone we had a perfect
start with young Danny Sumner giving us the lead, his good strike from the
edge of the area beating the keeper. With the wind at their backs Long Wittenham
put us under pressure for the next 20 to 30 mins, hitting the bar and forcing
us to clear off the line, but we managed to hold on to the lead until half
time.
Second half came and we had the upper hand, with playing good football got
a second goal thanks to a very good shot (all of 25 yards) from James Hall,
which really put an end to the contest.
All in all a good performance from the defence, with midfield getting stronger
as the game went on and the good finishing up front.

Wootton Reserves Vs Challow Utd
With a bare 12 players, we suffered our 3rd league defeat on the trot losing 4-0 to Challow 1st team, in windy conditions. 2 goals twice in quick concession once in the first half then in the second was our undoing. At 2-0 we did have chances forcing their keeper into 3 good saves but conceding a further 2 finally blew our chances. With Michael Terry in goal for the Res’ playing well stopping further goals for Challow.

Botley Utd Away
After the highs of last weeks cup win, we returned to the league program
with a loss away to Botley.
With the wind playing a big part, we went into half time with a 2-1 lead
with goals from Danny Cox and Stephen Bramley.
After the break against the wind, it was a different matter. Conceding a
early penalty and the sending off of a player (which was a harsh decision)
levelling the game once again, we then found we could not keep them at bay
conceding two further goals to trail 4-2. With the game ending controversially
when the referee blew the whistle 10 minutes early baffling both managers
as to why.
