First Team - Weekly Report

WOOTTON - DRAYTON  1-5  SATURDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER 2008

Not a good start.  A mixture of bad play, bad luck and bad refereeing decisions saw us slump to a disappointing 5 - 1 loss on the opening game of the season.  After a bright  opening 20 minutes we went behind to a goal which in the build up was handballed, the subsequent cross we defended badly at the far post and found ourselves 1 - 0 down.  That seemed to set the tone for the rest of the game with another two dubious goals for Drayton and for our part a ball which was clearly over the line was not given and a missed penalty by George Casserly summed up the afternoon for us.  Chris Dales in goal was man of the match in his first league start for us one positive out of a lot of negatives.  We all know we must do better and I am sure and confident that we will.  Ricky

WOOTON V ARDINGTON  1 - 0 13TH SEPTEMBER 2008

A closely fought game saw us come out on top with a 1 - 0 win.  A big improvement on last weeks performance both defensively and going forward.  Our passing was 100% better than last week and against an Ardington side who seem to have lost a couple of key players, we rarely looked in trouble during the 90 minutes.  Chris Dales in goal pulled off a terrific save in the first half which was probably Ardingtons only serious effort on our goal.  We effected numerous attacks on their goal resulting in some good blocks defensively for them but we were unable to hit the net.

In the second half again we were on top for a large percentage of the game and eventually scored a George Casserly effort from close range.  This made quite a tense last 15 minutes where at times we showed a lack of composure which we must seek to rectify, but we came out on top at the final whistle.  Richard Chilvers was man of the match working tirelessly up front.  All in all a much better performance and a truer reflection of what Wootton can do.  Ricky

WOOTTON V BLEWBURY 2 - 0 20TH SEPTEMBER 2008

Probably one of the best performances since I have been manager at the club a terrific all round effort from all 14 players.  We played to our strengths our passing game was impressive our physical endeavour was excellent and general attitude superb.

A brilliant goal by George Casserly and a proper strikers goal by Richard Chilvers gave us a well deserved 2 - 0 lead at half time.  In the second half we had what looked like a perfectly good goal scored by Ben Taylor chalked off for offside after a late linesmans flag.  We limited them to very few chances, one good effort from Blewbury was tipped onto the post by Chris Dales and that was the closest we came to conceding.  Really too many good performances to single out an individual but man of the match George Casserly was immense in his all round game.

A superb performance and one that we need to build on over the coming weeks.  We now know that we are capable of good pass selection and completion and our fitness will only improve.  Once again congratulations to you all on a fine performance.  Ricky
