WOOTTON 1 V 3 FARINGDON

Our first game in division one for over 22 years but probably not quite the result we were hoping for in a very tight game in which the first 15 minutes saw Faringdon dominate we gained confidence and had the better of the next 25 minutes. The first half had very few chances the best of which was created by Tommy Cooke seconds before half time when he crossed and Tommy Srawley was only inches away from the ball.  The second half was also very tight with the front two working particularly hard and Mark Loveridge went close when he created a chance for himself and hit the side netting.  Man of the match Adam Brookes was outstanding at the back ably assisted by the other members of the back four.  Half way through the second half we lost Tommy Cooke through a head injury which required five stitches in hospital, Ryan Dodds replaced him and fitted in well working hard on the right hand side.  Faringdon took the lead with fifteen minutes to go it then became one way traffic as we attacked their goal in search of the equaliser that eventually came when John Srawley crossed for his brother Tommy to finish.  With only four minutes to go we showed a lack of concentration and allowed  Faringdon to brake through and a ball that Phil Rose should have cut out was finished by the Faringdon striker, this unfortunate error by Phil overshadowed the brilliant one handed save he made earlier in the half.  A disappointing end to a game where we really deserved a draw against a Faringdon side which I believe will be challenging for the top positions.

BLEWBURY V WOOTTON

Our last game of  the season saw us come out winners by 1 - 0 against Blewbury Reserves in a close fought game.Considering the difference in the positions between the two clubs the game was challenging and only a top quality goal by Mark Loverage separated the two sides.  In a generally under par performance by us in a side that had been changed around man of the match Jonny Weir was the most consistent player for us on the night. A fine save by Phil Rose late in the second half prevented an equaliser and we held out for our 19th league win of the season out of 20 games.

All in all a terrific performance this year from all the boys that have been involved congratulations to you all and as I've said before it has been a privilege to be associated with a great bunch of lads.  One more game to go in the War Memorial Cup Final lets make sure that we make it a double.

WOOTTON V HARWELL VILLAGE

In this top of the table clash on a very warm day and a bumpy pitch we came through to win by two goals to nil.  It was more normal service resumed after the midweek poor showing with some good individual performances and two good goals in the second half one following a good corner kick by Jonny Weir headed in by John Srawley and the second for Joffy Boreham after good work by Tommy Cooke on the right.

We looked solid at the back with man of the match Warren Ireson outstanding in the middle.  The result hopefully will stand us in good stead when we meet the same opposition in the War Memorial Cup Final in two weeks, lets all try to make sure that its the same outcome as today.

WOOTTON V LONG WITTENHAM

The league presented us with our League 2 division champions cup and after that the first half was very much after the lord mayors show.  In probably our worst display this year we  ended the first half nil nil with little or no action in both goal mouths.  The second half we started much the same and not surprisingly went a goal  behind this seemed to have the desired effect and we started to play a bit of football and attack them more.  We prevailed through a man of the match Mark Loverage hat trick and a Nick Ridge goal to come out 4- 1 winners.  We will have to to better if we are to get anything from the game against Harwell on Saturday.  All in all a poor performance by us but at least we got the right result.

WOOTTON V BENSON

CHAMPIONSHIP SECURED

In a scrappy first twenty minutes against a very busy Benson side we gradually got the upper hand.  Once we had taken the lead the victory never looked in doubt and three goals from Ridgy one from Lovers and a og saw us through.  Good performances all round with Ben Pethick, man of the match, outstanding. Once we had settled down we showed brilliant team spirit that has seen us through many games this season.

Another terrific season well done to all involved it has been a pleasure and a privilege managing you all. Just now need to push on and win the last three league games and go one better than last year and pick up the War Memorial Cup.  Thanks to all again.

Wootton v Harwell International

Promotion secured!  In a tight first half in which we weren't really at our best Tom Srawley gave us the lead that we probably just about deserved. Because of injuries and suspension we were playing a slightly different formation which probably had some bearing on the way that we played.

In the second half early on Josh Nichols came on for Weirdo (who had made a welcome return) but the hero of the hour was man of the match Mark Loveridge who popped up with two welcome goals,  His tireless front play was rewarded when Josh Nicholls spotted him in for his first goal and his second was also well taken when he sprung the offside trap.  Three fine saves from Phil Rose had ensured we were still in front and once the second was scored we looked well in control.  Russ Mills came on for Ryan and we changed the formation to 4-4-2 and we closed the game out effectively.

Good performances again by the boys at the back and no booking for Brooksy, what a bonus!  In midfield again when we got into gear we looked dominant and again decent work by the two front boys.

That's promotion secured lets all pull together again now and push on to be champions!!!!!!!!

Wootton v Saxton Rovers Reserves

GOALS FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOYS!

In a scrappy game where the opposition seemed more intent on stopping us playing rather than playing themselves we eventually came through 2-0.  Goals from Tom Srawley and Man of the Match George Casserly sealed the victory for us in the second half.  Defensively again we were solid with Warren Ireson and Adam Brooks playing well in the centre and supported well by full backs John Srawley and Damian Dodds.

In midfield we were also good although sometimes guilty of overplaying.  George was superb and supported well by Tom Srawley, Ryan Dodds and Cookie also had good games.

Up front Danny Cox had a terrific game for us certainly considering the fact that he hasn't been with the first team much this year, he fitted in well with Mark Loveridege whose work rate was again unsurpassed. Unfortunately we have added Lovers to the injury list when he had to come off at half time with a very badly swollen ankle.

All things considered a decent performance and another good victory which takes us another three points closer to our target.  Well done boys!

War Memorial Semi-Final

In a tight game spoilt by the conditions we came through 1 - 0 in extra time with a goal from Warren Ireson.  Once again we showed a great team spirit but only flashes of the top quality football we are capable of.  Man of the match Phil Rose made a terrific save from a penalty followed by an even better save three minutes before the end. Excellent performance by Brooksy and Warren at the back and Lovers made a terrific impact when introduced as a substitute.  Hopefully we should have Jonny and Darren back soon from injury giving me some serious managerial decisions to make!

I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Sue, Dave and John Srawley for all their hard work in getting this web site up and running your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Some really important games coming up and we all need to maintain the terrific team spirit we have shown in the last few weeks.  I am sure if we do this we will end up in a really positive position!
