Wootton Vs Drayton

A tough first fixture for the clubs first foray into this competition for over twenty years.  Drayton who have made a good start in the league winning three out of three proved tough opposition but from the first whistle we started very well, played some good football and were very competitive.  We took the lead through a goal from Tom Srawley scored from close range after a brilliant cross by Brooksey we were on top at this point but again as in previous fixtures a lack of concentration cost us two goals.  With the score at 1-2 having lost Jonny Weir sent off for a late challenge along with a Drayton player who punched him while he was on the floor.  With two minutes to go before half time Drayton had another player sent off for a deliberate hand ball blocking Lovers goal bound shot.  Tom Srawley subsequently missed the penalty right on the stroke of half time.

The second half saw us come out and have two good scoring opportunities within the space of ten minutes we then went further behind from a very dubious looking penalty in which there looked to be very little contact.  We showed great spirit and kept taking the game to Drayton which eventually paid off when Lovers scored two goals later into the game.

We had a penalty awarded during the half which was subsequently chalked off by the ref after consultation with Draytons linesman, probably the most ridiculous off side decision I have seen in my 40 years of football.  During extra time the game ebbed and flowed with chances at both ends but eventually it went to penalties which we won 4 - 2 mention has to be made of veteran goal keeper Phil Padbury who not only was superb during the game but made a couple of great saves during the penalties.  Altogether a great effort with in particular great performance from Man of the Match Damion Dodds closely followed by Brooksey and again not forgetting Padders in goal.  AFC Aldermaston in the next round away, lets see if we can push on into the later rounds as we did in the junior competition last year.

Wootton Vs Harwell Village

Not much to write about this fixture really probably one of the most forgetable performances since I became first team manager against a very average Harwell Village side we failed to produce anything at all which could resemble the football we played last year. The only really bright spot in the game was a good individual goal from Man of the Match Jonny Weir.  Must do better in the next game against Blewbury.

Wootton Vs Blewbury

Another very disappointing result to lose 2 - 1 at Blewbury.  To lose in the last couple of minutes again after outplaying them for 80 per cent of the game was hard to take.  Much improved performance all round saw us outplay Blewbury and we were unlucky not to be 2/3 up at half time.  In the second half our hard work and good football paid dividends when we took the lead through a Tommy Srawley goal after good work on the right.  Sammy Pointer and Lovers worked tirelessly through the whole game and were very unlucky not to come away from the game with two goals each.   In midfield we passed the ball very well and in defence we looked solid the equaliser came after we conceded a corner and were slow to react when the ball was knocked in.  We started to look a little tired in the last ten minutes of the game and bad fortune and a lack of concentration conspired against us to concede the second goal.
